Acupuncture
The history of food, herbs, and nutrition in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) date back over 2500 years ago. Throughout dynasties, it was the duty of the Imperial TCM doctors to find food/recipes and herbal formulas that will help the Emperor achieve longevity. The knowledge of food therapy was also known amongst the Chinese common folks and has been passed down from generation to generation. Eating the right food regularly can treat and prevent many symptoms and diseases. However, to treat an existing illness, herbs are usually prescribed on top of food therapy. This is because food is a mild form of medicine; thus, food therapy takes longer to achieve results and requires the utmost compliance and dedication on the patient’s behalf.

Nonetheless, it is still important to eat wisely. The food that you eat everyday can either be the safest and most powerful medicine or your slowest form of poison.

There is no absolutely forbidden food or "one size fits all" diet in TCM. Sometimes even sugar is included in an herbal formula because the person needs it. This almost never happens in our country because Americans tend to have already eaten excessive amount of sugar. If anything, it is considered as poison here. Chinese nutrition takes into consideration such factors as methods of preparation, body types, seasons, and geographical locations in determining the appropriate diets. Everybody is different.

If you are wondering, what types of nutrition suit your body best – in order to help you lose or maintain weight, detoxify your body, strengthen your immune, and keep you healthy; then you will definitely benefit from our nutritional therapy.

What People Are Saying

I truly enjoy Shirley and Ed at the Acupuncture Center. They take the time to listen and I never feel rushed. They are atentative to listening to your body's imbalances and listening to feedback on follow-up visits.

Shirley had helped me so much in the past several months. It has been great to find someone who will find the root of the problem and not just put a bandaid on it.

My treatment has been with Shirley. She is a very caring professional and cares about all aspects of your life, not just the reason you came in. I have had nutritional counseling, Chinese herbs, and acupuncture with her, and I highly recommend her.

My first impression was a peaceful and clean waiting area, the wait was, well there was NO wait really. Ed was awesome attentive and patient while I rambled on with my "issues". He spent a great deal of time evaluating my painful ankle, and explaining my treatment plan as well as the payment and insurance process.
